Britain turns its back on the good old English cuppa
Traditionally a cure for all your troubles, latest research from MINTEL has found Britain’s love affair with the good old English cuppa is now under threat.New research from MINTEL has found sales of more traditional tea products, such as the standard tea bag and loose tea, taking a real battering. Indeed, over the past 2 years, sales of standard tea bags have declined by 16% while sales of loose tea have declined 9%. With standard tea bags making up the lion’s share of the total tea market at 63% and often sold as a discount, it is perhaps not surprising that the overall market for tea and teabags has experienced significant losses. Indeed, over the past 5 years the total tea market has declined some 12% falling from £707 million in 1999 to just £623 million in 2004.
