In the first webinar of the day, Simon Moriarty – Director, Mintel Trends, EMEA – will discuss Consumer Trends: how the global pandemic accelerated loneliness, anxiety and concern for the future – but that consumers are still seeking enjoyment everywhere. This presentation will cover the key motivations behind that desire for enjoyment, and what brands can do in response – now, next, and in the future.

Pleasure and Food & Drink – exploring the sacred, yet complicated, relationship

In the second webinar, Alex Beckett – Director, and Ayisha Koyenikan – Associate Director, Mintel Food & Drink – will discuss the pleasure which food and drink can bring to consumers, and how it is sorely needed right now. Global news topics, the climate catastrophe, and the cost of living crisis, make it more important to find moments of joy. But for food and drink, the role of pleasure has become nuanced, referring to the consumer need for instant gratification – but also longer term, mental contentment. In this presentation, we’ll analyse the relationship between enjoyment and satisfaction in food, covering everything from validating hedonistic, guilty pleasures to an alternative theory about permissible indulgence.

In the final webinar of the day, Andrew McDougall – Director, Mintel Beauty & Personal Care – will discuss that in a time of health, economic, and ecological crises, it is easy to get wrapped up in anxieties and negativity. However, Beauty & Personal Care can play a great role in boosting mood and emotions; and providing people with comfort and happiness. Multisensory products can trigger a stimulating effect in our brain to release more positive thoughts; and some can be relaxing. Using certain products can make you feel happier. They can give you confidence. It can be fun. At a time of wavering uncertainty, we will look at how Beauty and Personal Care can provide comfort and positivity in people.

Simon Moriarty
Director, Mintel Trends, EMEA
Simon is Director of Trends EMEA at Mintel, responsible for insight, editorial, and client service across the region, and developing content and strategy as part of the Global Trend Leadership team. With over fifteen years’ experience in consumer intelligence, Simon has previously managed Mintel’s consumer research in Brazil, India and China, and was based in Shanghai in 2016.

Director, Mintel Food & Drink
Alex shapes Mintel’s vast data resources into original and creative consumer insights. A global expert in soft drinks, he also manages the highly regarded Food & Drink Year of Innovation reports. Prior to joining Mintel, Alex held roles as a food journalist and a teacher.
