At in-cosmetics Korea 2019, Mintel will decode the issue of skin sensitivity in Asia and its impact on the beauty and personal care industry.

As Asian skin is more prone to sensitivities due to a thinner stratum corneum, consumers are looking for solutions that help relieve the burden. And this is encouraging the beauty industry to be a pillar of support to these consumers.

At Mintel’s Innovation Zone (Booth J50), we will showcase some of the latest beauty innovations from around the world that help consumers living with skin sensitivities. Here, we shine the spotlight on six products.

Fortify defensive strengths

The skin is subject to external aggressors and internal triggers; how are brands helping consumers strengthen their skin resistance?

Lu’Pium Reviving Essential Serum, South Korea

This product is an all-in-one highly concentrated serum that replenishes nutrients and moisturises deep into the skin, leaving it resilient and radiant with its whitening and anti-wrinkle benefits. It claims to help comfort skin that has been exhausted due to external stressors. The serum contains birch sap, madecassoside, lactobacillus ferment, and tea tree extract, to help soothe skin and make it vitalised and resilient.

Yon-Ka Specific Sensitive Skin Cream, Japan

Yon-Ka is a brand that focuses on anti-ageing, with products designed to prevent or treat visible signs of ageing. This product is a soothing cream with natural green pigments said to instantly even the complexion and help improve the appearance of redness over time. It is made of 98% natural origin ingredients including centella asiatica, mirabilis jalapa, bisabolol, vegetable glycerin, olive phytosqualane, and fucose-rich polysaccharides.

Borrow and build trust

The ‘free-from’ claim can evolve to focus more on ingredients and how they can positively influence skin health. Partnerships with doctors or hospitals can be explored to find solutions for unmet needs.

Suu Balm Rapid Itch Relieving Moisturiser Cream, Singapore
Formulated at the National Skin Centre Singapore, this product is a light, non-greasy and highly absorbable moisturising cream, specially designed for hot and humid climates in Southeast Asia. It contains menthol to provide rapid itch relief, and ceramides to restore skin moisture. The moisturiser cream is developed to meet the needs of people with dry, sensitive skin.

Kerstin Florian Clarifying Probiotic Mineral Tonic, USA

This tonic helps purify, balance and brighten skin as it stimulates cell turnover and normalises skin flora. It renews and protects skin for a visibly improved clarity and tone. It contains probiotics and lactobacillus ferment to support skin-healthy microorganisms; fruit extracts to stimulate cell turnover and boost skin function; and botanical extract complex to support immune response and regulated oil production.

Evoke positive emotions

Skin issues trigger powerful negative emotions, and this presents opportunities for brands to play a role in the emotional wellbeing of consumers.

Max & Me The Intuitive Botanical Facial Mist, USA

This facial mist is said to be developed based on the vibrations of oils and aroma-therapeutic effects to deliver radiance and grace. It claims to help transform skin’s overall health and appearance by dissolving energetic blockages, restoring its self-regulating forces and strengthening its natural rhythm and self-healing capacities. It contains palo santo hydrosols which comes with great energetic powers and incredible skin healing properties to bring out emotional balance and tranquility.

Phymongshe Calm & Light Cream, South Korea

Phymongshe is a ‘mindful’ aesthetic brand based on rituals practiced by therapists, putting more focus on one’s mind and feelings instead of just the skin. This product is said to be a highly nourishing, moisturising, whitening and anti-wrinkle cream that leaves the skin clear and radiant. It contains calcium, phosphorus and potassium to brighten and revitalise skin, as well as Giga White to whiten, soothe and even tone, restoring youthful skin.
