Mintel’s flagship British Lifestyles report reveals that while the savvy shopping mentality is still firmly entrenched in the UK today, consumers are making room in their budgets to treat themselves.
When asked what items they would be most likely to buy themselves as a treat, the top products Brits chose were clothes, shoes or accessories, followed by chocolate or sweets and a favourite food to eat at home.
And it seems that certain regions are more likely to splash out on some treats than others. For example, in Yorkshire and Humberside over half of consumers in this region say that they allow some budget each month for treats like a trip to the cinema or dinner out, compared to the national average of 48%.
