While life insurance has grown increasingly digital, agents are still critical to the business. According to Mintel, half of US consumers currently own a life insurance policy, and 27% purchased their most recent policy through an in-person meeting with an insurance agent. While agents remain crucial, what it means to be a life insurance agent is changing, as more agents sell part-time or have differing earnings goals. In this presentation, we consider evolution of the life insurance workforce, and the increasing importance of digital marketing to recruit agents and to promote their expertise. Penn Mutual provides a new approach that challenges traditional views of agent retention, and offers a modern take on what it means to be a financial professional.
