This week began with a sweet radio interview with resident chocolate expert Marcia Mogelonsky and Marketplace radio where she likened consumers’ growing interest in gourmet chocolate to the increased demand for high-end coffee we saw a while ago. Also, big news this week for Mintel Comperemedia’s new Director, Insurance Consulting Gary Wooley whose first press release discussing younger consumers and their insurance needs was picked up around the globe in MediaPost Marketing Daily and Insurance Networking News to name a few. It also garnered his first interview with National Underwriter Life & Health Magazine.

Meanwhile, Mintel’s data on the US soap market was used in an Associated Press article announcing a revamp of the 132-year-old Ivory brand, complete with a new logo and package that appeared in Forbes,The Salt Lake Tribune and The Miami-Herald.

Last but not least, Andrew Davidson was quoted in a Reuters article and asked to give his opinion of the current direct mail climate and a Grocery Headquarters article included our numbers in a piece about disposable baby products.

In the UK, the week began with a stiff drink! Mintel enjoyed a great exclusive in The Sunday Telegraph which quoted our very own Jonny Forsyth talking about our latest dark spirits report – receiving extensive coverage in the business section. The age-old problem of grey hair also hit the headlines earlier in the week, with the revelation that a pill could end this problem once and for all. Mintel’s hair colour research was featured in The Sunday Times, BBC News and The Mail on Sunday.

On to sweeter things Mintel’s global Stevia data was quoted in both The Guardian and The Observer, while the magazine Fitness spoke about the trend towards consumers avoiding sweeteners. Mintel’s global chocolate sales were used in the International Herald Tribune and Marcia Mogelonsky, global food analyst for Mintel, was sourced in The Times talking about the performance of Mars. Following on from previous press releases on the tea market, Mintel’s tea research was featured in The Sun.

The BBC featured Mintel’s data in a number of articles – our winter remedies research was used in an article discussing the common cold while eating out research was used in the BBC News Magazine discussing why Brits are too embarrassed to ask for a doggy bag. Tesco’s latest results were released midweek and our retail expert Richard Perks was called to comment in a number of high profile news channels including Channel 4 and BBC Radio 4 (You&Yours).

Finally, the issue of budgeting and the newly prudent consumer hit the headlines in Web India and Wallstreet Online in Germany. Some other great European coverage this week too as Mintel’s hair colourants research made it in to the Italian magazine StarBene and La Opinion de Murcia in Spain talked about the demise of the wrist watch.
