What’s next for plant-based eating in South East Asia

Megan Stanton, Associate Director, Food & Drink, Mintel APAC

Western markets in the US and Europe have experienced an explosion of plant based meat innovation over the last 5 years. Asia’s familiarity with soy and cost sensitivity has meant consumers in this region have been slower to embrace plant based meat. Now there is evidence that sales are slowing in the US and challenges are mounting for plant based meat. What can Asian markets learn from this slowing and what does the future look like for plant based meat in Asia? This session will help attendees understand the different motivations of plant based consumers and give brands strategies to deliver on these motivations. Plant based meat also has several barriers for consumption and we unpack what these are and how to address them. Attendees will walk away understanding how to leverage ingredients, flavours and formats to successfully execute plant based meat in Asian markets into the future.
