The environmental impact of beauty and grooming is under scrutiny, but confusion persists. Consumers are beginning to better understand what products are bad for the environment, but choosing the most responsible or least damaging products remain difficult.
Exacerbating the issues are feelings of skepticism, as consumers don’t always trust the claims being made by brands. However, consumers have shown a willingness to alter their behaviours for the sake of the environment, meaning brands can nudge consumers towards more sustainable beauty and grooming routines.
As environmental and ethical claims are on the rise, cutting through the noise will be challenging. Brands that move away from fear mongering and link sustainable beauty and grooming choices to the positives beyond the environment will appeal, while a shift from educating toward informing consumers will similarly engage consumers who want varying levels of transparency.
