As clean label ingredients become an expectation rather than a selling point in mature markets like The Netherlands, and other European countries, producers will need to consider how they can adapt and remain competitive where naturalness is concerned.

In the future, consumers will not just seek clean labels, but will seek brands with a ‘clean conscience’, highlighting opportunities for ingredients that are not just ‘clean’, but ‘green’ as well. Consumers are increasingly interested in the impact that the food and drink they buy has on people, and the planet, suggesting opportunities for ingredients that can deliver ‘better for me, better for the planet’ food and drink.
