One is a man in sunglasses running full pelt through a New York subway train, the other is an artistic statement about the nature of creative derivation – yet both of these videos tie neatly together when it comes to discovering new things online.
Innovation is boundless online – the web is yet to be tied down by the limits that constrain traditional media when it comes to being able to get your work out there, and seen by as many people as possible for little more than the cost of mobile phone and a broadband connection.
So what can we learn from the running man and the dancing statues? Perhaps the main thing is that thanks to YouTube, these expressions of creativity and humour are available for anyone to see. Will they change the world? Perhaps not drastically (unless tube running explodes as the next big thing) but what they do is show how the freedom to innovate and share is perhaps greater than ever.
