Mintel in the Media – this week's highlights

August 26, 2011

“With the last UK summer bank holiday weekend about to start, Mintel wanted to cheer British consumers during their long week end with a cool story on ice cream, a market which has withstood economic difficulties. The story was picked up by Talking Retail, the website dedicated to retail industry news and NAM News Network – as well as more to follow this weekend.

Channel Five viewers may also have seen Richard Cope, Principal Trend Analyst at Mintel on the Wright Stuff on Channel Five this week on the back of our story on rising food prices in cinemas – commentating on this issue as a consumer trend. Keep an eye out for Mintel’s London HQ – and specifically our airstream caravan – as the filming location! Richard is at 27:50 mins in.

We also had a fantastic double page spread in The Times business section this week, showcasing our Health and Fitness Club report findings and with a large infographic accompanying giving more detail. The story also made it to the Daily News – national Sri Lanka newspaper. And with regards to the wine market, Mintel was quoted the Independent on wine retailing. On the travel side, All Inclusive Holiday Deal – a dedicated forum site on the holiday market – hosted Mintel’s Tom Rees’ video interview on the growing popularity of package holidays amongst British consumers. In addition, the website Plus-Size-Tall.com (specialising in unusual sizes) linked back to our video interview on Mintel TV channel as did Just Style.com.

Furthermore, we feature in a great piece in the FT Adviser – with the head of investment promotion at Enterprise citing Mintel figures on food provenance. Mr Sherwood said: “”Mintel research carried out in April 2011 identified growth in the local food sector of 27 per cent between 2005 and 2010, valuing the current market at”
