Emerging CEE retail markets grow 5 times

the rate of Western Europe since 2000Latest research from MINTEL finds retail sales in the 9 emerging Central and Eastern European (CEE) markets growing some 75% between 2000 and 2005. This is over 5 times the 14% growth experienced by their developed counterparts, including the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary as well as Western Europe. In 2005 retail sales in these 9 emerging CEE markets came to a total of some 217 billion Euros, with Russia alone accounting for over three-quarters (77%) of sales at an impressive 167 billion Euros. Retail sales in the developed Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary together come to 110 billion Euros.
