Mintel Global New Products Database (GNPD) monitors consumer packaged goods launched across the globe, with an impressive 38,000 products added monthly. This year, we expanded our coverage from 62 to 86 countries, giving our clients even more insights into the competitive global FMCG landscape.

To give you a taste of what GNPD offers, here are some interesting local products launched in 5 of the new countries.

Lebanon

Darina Jallab Syrup: Jallab syrup is a sweet fruit syrup made from dates, grape molasses and rose water which has then been smoked with Arabic incense. It originates from the Middle East and is commonly used to prepare jallab tea, a refreshing summer drink: the syrup is usually diluted with water, ice and then topped with almonds, raisins and pine nuts for extra flavour and texture. However, it can also be used as a flavour enhancer in desserts, ice creams and cakes.

Bulgaria

Bestfood homemade ajvar: Ajvar is a pepper-based condiment made from roasted red bell peppers and oil, which is popular in many Balkan countries, including Croatia, Bulgaria and Albania. Depending on the preparation, it can be sweet, spicy or very hot, and it’s often used as a spread or as a side dish to add extra flavour to meat or vegetables.

Estonia

Tamme Talu Apple Cider Jelly with Mint: This jelly is made from Tori Siidritalu’s hand-crafted cider (a well-known farm that produces cider with “the aroma and taste of fresh farm apples characteristic of Estonia”). This spread pairs well with cheese, lamb, beef and pork.

Guatemala

Yogi Superfoods Gluten Free Granola with Superfoods: This granola is made with a range of superfoods, including baobab, goji berries, dates, mulberries, acai and coconut. It is a great source of protein, dietary fiber and calcium; and it’s great on yogurt, fruit purees, smoothies or on its own.

Kenya

Unga Famila Pure Millet Porridge: A staple in many Asian and African countries, millet is increasingly gaining a wider presence in the West, benefitting from the health halo associated with ancient grains. The wholesome porridge is made from fine finger millet and has been enriched with calcium, protein and minerals for enhanced bone health.

Latvia

Shashlik and Roasted Onion Flavoured Potato Chips: This potato snack features flavours of the traditional dish Shashlik (grilled skewered meat, similar to shish kebab), resonating with Latvian consumers. It is cooked in sunflower oil and is free from preservatives and flavour enhancers.
