A new report from MINTEL finds that when it comes to chatting on mobile phones, it is men and not women who are Britain’s mobile phone ‘spendthrifts’. This latest research finds that men are in fact considerably more likely than women to talk on their mobile phones without thinking about the bill, dispelling the common assumption that women are Britain’s greater talkers.MINTEL has grouped all mobile phone users into 3 distinct typologies. One in four (23%) adults are in the ‘Personal Touch’ group, who prefer more traditional ways of communicating such as calling and do not worry about the bill. One in three (32%) are ‘Social Texters’, who rely heavily on texting to keep in touch with friends and to organise their social life. The remaining adults (45%) are ‘Emergency Users’, who as the name suggests, use their phones on a less frequent basis.
